I don’t think most men accessorize. We women do it all the time: earrings, shoes, purses, etc. It’s second nature to us. But I think it scares men. Will they look like they are trying too hard? Can they pull it off? Do “real men” wear this kind of stuff? I can just hear the inner dialogue. All I can say is, accessories make all the difference for women AND men.
Accessorizing for men is a bit more subtle: a funky watch, a colorful belt, layering, a hat, a scarf, etc. My husband wrote about his take on scarves here. His big question, can men pull off a scarf. YES! But…like all things fashion-oriented, you do have to own it…act like you like it and you don’t care what anyone else thinks about it. No being self-conscious…not allowed! It’s like dogs smelling fear…people will just KNOW if you are not owning your outfit.
The great thing is, you men can still stay casual…unpretentious…even sporty. All you have to do is add a little flair — something that pops. Just one thing…one thing…you can do that! Regular jeans and a white t-shirt…but throw in a watch…cool sneakers…if you are daring…a hat. And boom…done! It doesn’t take much, and you definitely don’t have to have three “different” items…just one will do! Go on…be daring!
