Sneak Peek…Lexie

I don’t do a lot of senior sessions, but when Lexie asked if I would shoot some photos for her I was so excited! Let me just say, senior pictures have come a long way since I was in high school. If I had the time, I’d search through my photo archives and scan my senior photo…and it wouldn’t be pretty…total studio, tilt-you-head-at-a-weird-angle shot…and lots of make up and big hair. (Hey…it was the 80s…)

Lexie and I headed out to this field I see every morning when I drive my son to school. I don’t listen to a lot of country music, but I swear every time I pass this field I get the Dixie Chick’s “Wide Open Spaces” blaring in my head:

Who doesn’t know what I’m talking about
Who’s never left home, who’s never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone

Many precede and many will follow
A young girl’s dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out west
But what it holds for her, she hasn’t yet guessed

[Chorus:]
She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes
She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes

She traveled this road as a child
Wide eyed and grinning, she never tired
But now she won’t be coming back with the rest
If these are life’s lessons, she’ll take this test

She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes
She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes

As her folks drive away, her dad yells, “Check the oil!”
Mom stares out the window and says, “I’m leaving my girl”
She said, “It didn’t seem like that long ago”
When she stood there and let her own folks know

She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes
She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes

(Meanwhile…my kids look at me like I’ve lost my mind as I belt this out in my best country croon.)

t’s totally applicable to those seniors getting ready to strike out on their own, non? Lexie, you were so much fun to shoot. It was a little hard to get a serious face out of her because we were laughing so much…the best kind of session!

Enjoy your wide open spaces, Lexie!
