Everyone is a photographer (or an aspiring one)…seriously…everyone. And digital photography has made it all the more true. But there are benefits of going with a professional photographer (instead of your cousin Tim) for those photos you want to keep a lifetime. Chances are the professional photographer you hire uses Photoshop, which is an investment in not only money, but time. Joe Schmoe isn’t going to use it.
Last post, I mentioned actions as a Photoshop favorite of mine. Another favorite feature is the ability to delete objects. It comes in handy oh-so-often. I’m embarrassed to admit (and I secretly hope that other photographers have this same problem) that I often find things to delete while I’m editing photos that I SHOULD have seen and changed when I was actually taking the pictures, but didn’t. Enter the cloning device in Photoshop. A few clicks…and voila…problem solved. Here are a couple examples:

Gone random man standing in background. I’ve also brightened the photo and saturated the colors.
This photo was taken w/a regular point-and-shoot this summer. It’s just a snapshot on the beach. Nothing fancy. But it proves my point: A professional photographer has a lot of benefits. Yes…they can compose great pictures. Yes…they probably have better equipment, which will give you a better photo. And yes…they are probably using Photoshop to make their photos great. So, yes, your cousin Tim can take photos of your wedding….just don’t expect amazing photos.![]()
