Monday Musings: I’m Feeling an Itch

I have an itch to travel. It hits me every once in a while. It doesn’t help that I am a gypsy at heart. Growing up, I don’t think my family lived in the same place for more than 2 years. While some of my siblings hated that, I LOVED it.

I like to explore new places, meet new people, and see the world.

Obviously with 5 kids under the age of 13, I have to rein in my inner-gypsy. Don’t get me wrong. I love my life. I love where I live. I love my friends. Really…I’m not trying to escape anything.

But the itch demands to be scratched. My baby is almost 1-yr-old, the age where I’m finally able to stretch my wings again. When my first child turned one, we went to Maui. When my second child turned one, my hubby took me to my favorite city in the whole wide world: Paris. Third child, we took off to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Fourth bambino, we explored NYC. So…the fifth (and final!) is almost one…and I’m thinking it’s about time for a trip.

I’m pretty sure I surprised my husband a couple of nights ago. He’s been traveling a lot lately, so I emailed him with a “Hey…you want to go to Rome?” Innocent enough question, right? Or not! Once my wheels get turning…

Here are a couple of places I’m dreaming of:

1. Rome, Italy: I’ve been to Italy, but it’s been almost 20 years. My husband has never been. This would be his perfect vacation. He likes to DO stuff when we travel. Plenty to do (and eat) in Italy.

2. The Caribbean: The closest I’ve been to the Caribbean is Playa del Carmen. The water there was blue and clear — hands down the best beach I’ve ever been to. Plus, a beach is relaxing. That’s pretty much all I want to do on a vacation: sleep, eat, be lazy.

3. Canada: Why not…I’ve never been. It looks beautiful. The only down side is that it’s probably cold as all get out…and I don’t like the cold. Plus, I grew up in Kansas and I don’t ski. Maybe better saved for a summer vacation?

4. Southern France: I lived in Northern France for a couple of years. But the north and south are completely different. Definitely on my bucket list. Actually, I would love to rent a house for a month or two during the summer. LIVE THERE! (Heads up, honey)

5. NYC: Again! I know…I hate to repeat. But I love NYC. There’s plenty of things we didn’t get to see last time. Last time we were there in the summer…winter might be nice. Plus, as a Californian, it’s nice to visit cold places and then turn around and come back to paradise.

Now to find a babysitter…

I want to hear your ideas! Top 5 places you would love to take off to…
