I pass this bridge every time I go to the beach. During the summer, that’s at least once a week. I look at it longingly, wanting to stop and check it out. But…I have 4 kids in the car all hyped up for a day in the sand…and the last thing they want to do is stop. And by the time we are heading home, Slurpies in hand (tradition), we’re all too exhausted. I always look, I never stop.
A few weeks ago we took a family field trip to Mission San Luis Rey. (If you have a child in 4th grade in California…you know why!) Brandon wanted some photos taken with each child…and I knew the perfect place. The bridge.
It’s on the way to the mission, but the kids still weren’t thrilled about the detour…until they walked out on the bridge and noticed the guys in camouflage underneath the bridge playing paint ball. Once they explored underneath the bridge and found walls of graffiti, they dubbed it the coolest place in the world. It is pretty cool…I must admit. And I really love that Brandon likes to have his pictures taken with the kids — I avoid the camera at all cost.

Let me tell you a secret. It’s work to get my kids to act…well…normal in photos. I’m going to blackmail them with some of these gems.

I’ve decided that I need to stop and smell the roses more…and quit being so destination-bound. There are so many great places to explore…and my kids are growing up far too quickly.
